GEXSI coaches and mentors a portfolio of biofuel projects which adhere
to strict social and environmental standards:
no displacement of food production |
no destruction of rainforests |
local economic development through
sales of pure plant oil to fuel lamps, stoves, cars, trucks,
boats or diesel generators on the
domestic market (at least of a proportion of the total production) |
integration of independent smallholder
farmers |
integrated pest control |
diversification through intercropping
or alternative oil bearing energy crops where ever applicable |
Our main focus is on Southern and East Africa where we work with social
entrepreneurs in
Madagascar, |
Tanzania, |
Mozambique, and |
Zimbabwe |
Currently we are considering jatropha projects in
Cameroon, Namibia, Ghana, and Ethiopia.
In all locations our aim is to assist jatropha entrepreneurs in
scaling up existing pilot regimes by providing access to agronomic
and technical expertise, business planning support, and finance.
In some cases we also assist in establishing contacts to potential
buyers (e.g., to access the European market).
