Professor Hanns Michael Hölz

Professor Hanns Michael Hölz heads the Group Sustainability department of Deutsche Bank and developed many sustainability initiatives over 15 years.

Under his responsibility, Deutsche Bank introduced its Sustainability Management System according to ISO 14001 and entered a couple of important external commitments like the Global (ESG) Compact. To his current function belongs the membership in the bank’s Environmental Steering Committee (chaired by the Vice Chairman of Deutsche Bank Group) and an important advisory function to the Group Reputational Risk Committee (chaired by the Chief Risk Officer) about ESG risk issues both on the client side and the bank’s own activities.

Michael was always active in the environmental and sustainability community (e.g. chairman of the UNEP FI 2000-2005, board member of the Global Reporting Initiative). At present, he is chairman of “econsense”, the sustainability organization of the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

During his professional career Michael was responsible for corporate marketing and communication matters as well as being global co-head of the corporate social responsibility function within Deutsche Bank.

After successful studies in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim, he joined Badische Kommunale Landesbank in Mannheim. Since 1986 he has been working for the Deutsche Bank Group.

At the beginning of 2010, the SRH University, Heidelberg, appointed Michael to the Professor of Honour in appreciation of his longstanding academic contributions.
