Our Mission

GEXSI is a mission-driven social enterprise that explores new paths to impact investing. We believe that the greatest hurdle to overcome in this sector is the lack of early stage social risk capital to support promising social enterprise start-ups, which are not yet advanced enough to be eligible for funding from established impact investment funds.

There exists huge untapped potential of talented people who would be willing to build a social enterprise if this major bottleneck was not present. As a consequence, we face a situation where a growing number of impact investment funds are in search of “investible” social enterprises, of which there are few due to the considerable entry barriers.

We are committed to contribute to reduce this gap.

To achieve this goal, we have created three bespoke and intertwined tools that makes our offering unique:

• GEXSI Lab - our internal unit that develops and tests innovative business models that tackle poverty related issues.
• GEXSI BoP Fund - a charitable vehicle that co-funds early-stage prototype implementation of such innovative business models.
• GEXSI Capital Partners - a social venture capital firm that provides project management and advisory services, and which manages financing rounds to take the most promising ventures to the next stage.

GEXSI is a UK registered Charity (#1117884), complemented by a sister organization, GEXSI Capital Partners, which the GEXSI team set-up in 2010 in Berlin, and which in the past two years evolved as our main sponsor.
