Organisation

GEXSI has roots in Switzerland, England, and Germany.

The idea to found GEXSI was born in 2001 at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Following a two-year preparatory phase as a programme within the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, GEXSI was launched as an independent organisation early 2004.

Under the leadership of Dr. Maritta Koch-Weser, who headed the organisation until 2009, GEXSI gained recognition as a UK-based charitable organization that pioneered innovative charitable financing mechanisms to tackle poverty in low-income regions worldwide.

Since 2010, the organisation has been led by Dr. Andreas Renner, who has further developed the organisation into an entity committed to social enterprise development. The organisation is guided and supported by:

  • A Board of Trustees;
  • An international advisory board; and
  • A global network of friends and supporters.

The GEXSI Charity team currently works to the greatest extent on a pro-bono basis, using its sister organisation, GEXSI Capital Partners, as the home base.
