The GEXSI Bottom-of-the-Pyramid (BoP) Fund
The GEXSI BoP Fund seeks to move entrepreneurs from Aid to Market,
who demonstrate keen ambition and ability to move beyond charity.
It will work with ambitious, innovative social entrepreneurs able
to develop viable, self-sustaining businesses in support of their
social cause.
The fund is designed to serve organizations - among
the large and growing group of non-governmental - civil voluntary
organizations (CVOs), or small enterprises - who deliver essential
goods and services locally among the world's poor. It will focus
on organizations whose work is demonstrably highly relevant to the
achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The objective is to provide affordable start-up
finance, required to make early-stage social entrepreneurs succeed.
The Fund will
 |
Finance early stage social entrepreneurs
on the basis of their approved business plan, with low interest
finance and - on an exceptional basis - also with small kick-off
grants |
|
 |
Provide financing (debt or equity)
to social enterprises which do not have access to commercial
finance, provided they have a viable business model which allows
them to eventually become financially self-sustaining |
|
 |
Be established with private philanthropic
and public grant contributions, from donors from the host countries
and from abroad |
|
 |
"Recycle" philanthropic
and/or public donor grants repeatedly, thereby maximizing the
overall impact of donated funds. |
|
 |
Make investments typically ranging
between EUR 10,000 and 100,000, with a view to increase the
maximum volume over time |
As an integral part of fund management
we provide continued coaching and mentoring services (such as business
planning or facilitation of market access).
GEXSI seeks individuals, foundations
or companies who do not merely want to give away money, but wish
to achieve high impact with their donations. GEXSI invites donors
to play an active part in the Bottom-of-the-Pyramid-Fund community.
At regular intervals throughout the period of funding, GEXSI and
partners from our network evaluate how projects are developing,
providing donors with efficient and concise information on their
performance.
