Biodiversity - Business models for rainforest
protection
GEXSI has build up a project
portfolio of rainforest businesses. We identify and support
entrepreneurs who develop business models which help protecting
the biodiversity of the world's most important habitats: the
Amazonian as well as the Coastal rainforests in Latin America.
We have
arranged financing for a sustainable forestry project
in the Esmeraldas rainforest region in Ecuador. The project
successfully transfers a part of the wood processing value
chain from the factory in Quito to the indigenous population
in the Esmeraldas rainforest region. A part of the company
profits are diverted for coaching and training of the
local population; a FSC certification of the forest is
currently being prepared
We work
with plant oil project developers to implement business
models which protect the rainforest while creating income
for the local population.
